What We Do

Our Service

Whether your stone needs complete restoration or just a little TLC, we've got you covered. Here's what we do:

Complete Stone Restoration

If your floors or countertops are dull, scratched, etched, stained, or just plain worn out, we can bring them back to life. Our multi-tiered diamond honing process removes all the damage and wear, revealing the beautiful stone underneath. The best part? When we're done, your stone will look better than it did when it was first installed. That's not marketing hype, that's the truth. Factory finishes can't compare to the hand-polished results we achieve.

Maintenance & Tune-Ups

Natural stone can last for the life of your home, but it does need occasional maintenance to keep looking its best. We typically recommend a tune-up every five years or so, depending on how much traffic your floors get. The great news is that once we've done your initial restoration and have your custom prescription on file, these tune-ups are quick and easy. We can usually get your kitchen back to perfect in an hour to an hour and a half. Then you're good to go for another five years.

Damage Repair

Accidents happen. You drop a jar. Someone spills wine on the marble. A piece of furniture scratches the floor. Whatever it is, we can fix it, often in less than an hour. Because we keep your prescription on file, we know exactly what your stone needs, and we can match the repair perfectly to the surrounding area. You won't even be able to tell where the damage was.

Historical Restoration

We've earned the trust of historians and preservationists by successfully restoring stone in centuries-old homes in Savannah and Beaufort. Historic properties require a different level of care and understanding. You need to know what you're dealing with, respect the age and character of the materials, and work with extreme precision. We approach these projects with the seriousness they deserve, and we're honored to help preserve these important pieces of history.

Why choose us

Why Homeowners Throughout the Lowcountry Trust Stone Restore

When you're looking for someone to restore your stone surfaces, you want to make sure you're hiring true professionals. Here's what sets us apart:

Master Technician Icon

Master Technician Expertise—Not Just a Weekend Certification

There are plenty of people out there who took a three-day class and now call themselves stone restoration experts. We're not those people. Doug and Roddy have over 30 years of combined, real-world experience working with every type of natural stone you can imagine. We've spent decades learning how to read stone—how it sounds when it's being cut properly, what diamond grits work best for different hardness levels, and how to create custom restoration plans that deliver results you won't believe until you see them. This isn't something you can learn from a manual. It takes years of dedication, and we've put in the work.

Business Owner Icon

You Get the Owners, Not a Crew

When you hire Stone Restore, you're hiring Doug Hoover and Roddy Lane, period. We don't send out crews or subcontractors. We personally handle every single job from consultation to completion. This means you get consistent, superior craftsmanship every time, along with the peace of mind that comes from working with people who truly care about the results. We keep our business small by design because quality matters more to us than quantity.

Stress-free Icon

A Completely Stress-Free Experience

We know having work done in your home can be disruptive. That's why we go the extra mile to make the entire process as smooth and hassle-free as possible. We move all your furniture before we start, we protect everything that needs protecting, and when we're done for the day, we put everything back exactly where we found it. No mess left behind. No drama. You can walk on your floors and use your countertops right away. Many of our customers tell us they're amazed at how easy we make it.

On Time Icon

We're Always On Time. No Exceptions

If you've ever dealt with contractors who show up late or not at all, you know how frustrating that can be. We respect your time and your schedule. When we say we'll be there at 8:00 AM, we're there at 8:00 AM. Not 8:15. Not 8:30. Our punctuality isn't just a nice bonus—it's a guarantee. We are never late. Ever.

Why choose us

The Art & Science of Stone Restoration

Stone restoration might sound simple, but it's actually a highly specialized craft that combines technical knowledge with years of hands-on experience. Anyone can buy diamond pads and a polisher—but knowing which grits to use, in what order, at what speed, and for how long? That's where the real expertise comes in.

Every type of stone is different. Marble behaves differently than travertine. Granite has different requirements than terrazzo. Even within the same type of stone, there are variations in hardness and composition that affect how we approach the restoration. That's why we start every project with what we call a discovery phase.

1

Discovery Phase

A test section of your floor or countertop is used to experiment with different diamond grits and techniques — identifying exactly what your stone needs.

2

Custom Prescription

Every grit number, rotation speed, and process step is documented. Your prescription stays on file for this job and any future tune-ups or repairs.

3

Listening to the Stone

Stone talks while being worked. Over decades, Doug and Roddy have developed the ability to hear what the stone tells them and adjust in real time. This skill only comes from experience — lots of it.

We work with all natural types of stone:

  • Marble floors, countertops, and other surfaces
  • Travertine floors and walls
  • Granite countertops and flooring
  • Terrazzo floors (we restored the massive terrazzo floor in the F-35 hangar at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort)
  • Any natural stone surface that needs restoration

In this day and age, online reviews can be incentivized, paid for, or just plain fake. The best way to find a good contractor? Ask around your neighborhood. Here's what some of our customers have to say:

"Doug is a magician with these floors"

I met and used Doug for the first time 10 years ago to polish and restore my floors, which are travertine and marble. Since that time, 17 of our 18 homeowners in South Shore Commons have used Doug and Roddy to polish and restore their floors, and all have been extremely satisfied. I sort of say Doug is a magician with these floors. He's highly professional and dependable. He strives for customer satisfaction. His partner Roddy is also a pro, and they make a great team. I highly recommend them. I think they are the BEST.

"They look better than I ever imagined"

When our marble floors were first installed, I was very disappointed. The sealer that was applied made them look dull and cloudy. I placed several calls looking for someone to refinish them. Every call led to Doug Hoover. He took ownership of the floors and made them come alive. They look better than I ever imagined. Doug is a perfectionist in every way, from start to finish.
