About Stone Restore
Two Marines.
One Mission.
WHO WE ARE
Two Marines, Three Decades of Experience,
One Mission: Your Perfect Stone
At Stone Restore, we're not your typical contractors. We're a two-man operation built on decades of real-world experience, military discipline, and an unwavering commitment to doing things right. When you hire us, you're not getting a crew or subcontractors — you're getting Doug Hoover and Roddy Lane, two master technicians who personally handle every aspect of your project from start to finish.
We've spent over 30 years combined learning the art and science of stone restoration, and we've built our reputation one satisfied customer at a time. We keep our business small by design because quality matters more to us than quantity. Every floor, every countertop, every surface we restore gets our complete attention and expertise.

Meet the Team
The Master Technicians
Behind Every Job
Founder & Master Technician
Doug Hoover
VETERAN Marine · 26+ Years Stone Experience
Doug's journey into stone restoration started in an unexpected way. After retiring from the Marine Corps and working for Grainger Industrial Supply, he bought a home in Hilton Head Plantation with travertine floors. The floors looked terrible — and Doug couldn't stand looking at them every day.
Being the type of person who doesn't settle for less than
excellent, Doug started researching how to restore them. What he discovered surprised him: almost nobody in the Lowcountry really knew how to properly restore natural stone. He saw an opportunity to fill a real need — and built a business around a craft that required genuine skill and dedication.
Doug started his flooring business in 2000, focusing exclusively on natural stone restoration. Today, when stone distributors throughout the Lowcountry get asked for referrals, they all say the same name: Doug Hoover.
"Training is useful, but there is no substitute for experience. That's especially true in stone restoration."
Co-Owner & Master Technician
Roddy Lane
VETERAIN Marine · 17 Years with Stone Restore
Roddy Lane moved to the Lowcountry from Tallahassee, Florida, with his wife Melissa. Like Doug, Roddy is a Veteran Marine, and he brought that same discipline and work ethic to his search for business opportunities. One day, Roddy met Doug at a local restaurant — two Marines who connected immediately.
Doug invited Roddy to help with what he called a "nightmare job" — stripping Saltillo tile. Roddy proved himself right away. He had a natural eye for detail and an ability to understand what the stone needed. That was 17 years ago, and Roddy has been Doug's partner ever since.
Doug often says that Roddy has an enormous eye for detail and gets a handle on things very early in the process, making their efficiency and quality even better. They have complementary attributes that make them perfectly matched for the work they do.
"You can't really wrap your head around what we do to the floor and how it changes the entire home. We're changing their world, and that's rewarding."
The perfect partnership
Complementary Skills.
Shared Values.
What makes Doug and Roddy such an effective team isn't just their technical expertise—it's their complementary skills and shared values. Doug's deep knowledge of stone restoration combined with Roddy's exceptional attention to detail creates a partnership that consistently delivers results that exceed expectations.
Both men bring the discipline, integrity, and commitment they learned in the Marines to every job. When they say they'll be there at 8:00 AM, they're there at 8:00 AM. When they promise a stress-free experience, they deliver on that promise. When they tell you what your stone will look like when they're done, you can take that to the bank.
They've intentionally kept Stone Restore a two-man operation because they believe the only way to guarantee consistent quality is to do the work themselves. They're not interested in scaling up, hiring crews, or becoming a franchise. They're interested in doing exceptional work for people who appreciate craftsmanship and professionalism.
TRACK RECORD
Notable Projects
Over the years, Doug and Roddy have earned the trust of customers ranging from homeowners to government agencies to historic preservation groups.
Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort
Doug and Roddy were hired to restore the massive marble terrazzo floor in the F-35 hangar at MCAS Beaufort. This government contract required going through a rigorous clearance process and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism. The floor was in terrible shape when they started, but they made it look brand new—a testament to their skill and dedication.
Historic Properties in Beaufort and Savannah
They've been entrusted with restoring stone in centuries-old homes—properties that require extreme care, respect for historical materials, and a level of expertise that goes beyond standard restoration work. As Doug puts it: "It's more than just fixing a floor. It's respecting that this is a very delicate home. You have to be very careful, and you have to know what you're doing."
Residential Communities Throughout the Lowcountry
In places like Southshore Commons in Leamington, 17 out of 18 homeowners have used Stone Restore for their floors—a remarkable testament to the quality of their work and the power of word-of-mouth referrals. When neighbors see the results and hear about the experience, they know who to call.
